Time Out of Mind

Cherry is one of my favorite flavors for tequila cocktails. The first time I did this one, I used Herradura. I did it again it very successfully with Hornitos, but the Herradura gave it an interesting funk.

Time Out of Mind

  • 2 oz reposado tequila
  • 1/2 oz Cherry Heering
  • 1/4 oz maraschino liqueur
  • 1/2 oz lime juice
  • 1 dash Angostura Bitters
Shake with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

  1. I'm gonna make this tonight, Rowen. Is this an original of yours?

  2. Ok, drinking it right now while watching political analysis shows on TV, my favorite venue.

This is real interesting. I was hoping for a fruity drink with tequila in the background, but what I got, really, was the reverse. (I made it on the rocks, btw. My shaking tins are in the washer.)

I'm getting a lot of pepper up front from the tequila (I'm using a fairly cheap brand, but at least it's 100% agave.) I'm not really a fan of Maraschino, but the tequila and lime beat the hell out of it here and keep it in check, such that I imagine it's now simply complementing the Heering, which is staying fairly subdued here.

Perhaps it's the tequila I'm using(brand is Azul)? To me, this tastes like a slightly fruity and sour accompaniment to the tequila, which is clearly singing the lead. I like it, I'm just not sure that's the note you were going for. Lemme know.
